Ecstatic Sunshine

Two guitars, two humans, every riff in the world. May we introduce the treble warrior spazzos from Baltimore otherwise known as Ecstatic Sunshine. The playful and whimsical electric guitar duo of Matthew Papich and Dustin Wong are like a punk-lite version of John Fahey, Mick Barr (Orthrelm, Octis, et al.), Greg Ginn, and Bruce Springsteen. In other words they can shred, rip, AND roll.
Having plenty of time and freedom to perfect their sound and performance while hanging out in art school and throwing parties in Baltimore’s cheap industrial lofts, Ecstatic Sunshine are now ready to take their frenetic live show to kids all over the world. They will not rest until they change your life.
"So firstly, let us tick off what Ecstatic Sunshine are not: They’re not a pedal noise/drone duo a la Growing. Neither are they another Load Records-style ADD-afflicted cartoon aggro assault unit (thank god). And they’re not some kinda blissed-out, roots-stretching Deadheads. They are entirely untouched by the ubiquitous spirits of Fahey/Basho/Takoma. And there’s definitely no improv shred on display here either –- these guys play tight within solid compositions. They don’t work with classic rock/metal in any immediately obvious manner either, and although there is some fiendish twiddling to be heard, neither are they a gang of Fucking Champs-esque semi-ironic virtuosos. Now let’s move onto what they are: Brief, snappy songs in which neat, trebley, mildly fuzzy guitar lines loop around each other, fighting or fucking like tripped-out, delinquent Disney squirrels –- here a diddleiddleiddle, there a DUR-DUR-DUR, then up they zoom up into some weird inverted Marquee Moon-meets-Black Dog melody/riff, then down the helter skelter and back off to their opposite corners for a quick hop around like wheeee...nice one dudes! It’s such a pleasant change to hear some complex, instrumental rock music where the watch words are ‘playful’ and ‘fun’...not to mention ‘short.' Enjoyably goofy from time to time, such as on opening track ‘Ramontana’ -- ingeniously composed of genetically modified Ramones riffs -- Ecstatic Sunshine smother us in goodwill, have fresh chops to share and never even skirt the borders of Annoying." Lexie Mountain Boys
http://www.myspace.com/mountainlex
In 2005, Lexie Mountain expanded upon her solo repertoire of tape-blues and wailing harrassments when she called upon her closest friends in Baltimore to begin an all-female experimental a capella project called Lexie Mountain Boys.
With a core group of 6 members, the Mountain Boys run the gamut from girl-group wailing harmonies to stand-up comedy to performance art to all-out noise heroine terrorism. Performances are site-specific, completely unique and often make regular 4-piece rock bands seems obsolete.
In Baltimore & abroad, Lexie Mountain Boys have opened for and been involved with Akron/Family, Rah Bras, Trans Am, Pit Er Pat, Peter and the Wolf, WZT Hearts, Dirty Projectors, Oakley Hall, Neptune, a bunch of zombies and a big cake party in the park. Most recently, they formed human pyramids in the Baltimore Museum of Art Sculpture Garden for the entire month of October.
Forthcoming releases include a CD/DVD Sexy Fountain Noise on Heresee Records, with digital release by Carpark Records. Lexie Mountain's solo CD Boys is available from Heresee, and digitally from Carpark as well. Look for a Lexie solo split 12" with Lichens (Rob Lowe from 90 Day Men) to be released on Hoss Records.
Says Red Hunter/Peter and the Wolf of Lexie Mountain Boys:
"Voted most likely to get naked for midnight beach swims, Lexie and her crew of 2 Amys, a Sam, and a Katherine toured this summer in the Baltimore area and played a bunch of unforgettable shows I was lucky enough to catch. Often ending up in the street in front of the club, halting traffic, shrieking, showing their asses to passing gangstas, and all kinds of other hair-pulling good times, the Lexie Mountain Boys are a carnival of oddities, a rare insight into the minds of girls, and a one-of-a-kind American phenomenon you'd better catch before they befriend Beck and turn into the Spice Girls or something."
Cache Cache

Cache Cache is Beth Ferreter, Lesser Gonzalez, and Jared Paolini. All three members live and work in Baltimore.
The group was started in early January 2006, initially consisting of Beth Ferreter and Lesser Gonzalez who met at art school. Gonzalez first noticed Ferreter's unique vocal range with her work in her previous group, Language of Love, an art-pop group led by Ecstatic Sunshine guitarist Matt Papich. Soon the two added longtime mutual friend Jared Paolini on bass and guitar.
Adapting their early work to fit Paolini proved difficult and the band experienced some growing pains. After some restructuring, the group solidified into their current incarnation. Taking cues from producers such as Phil Spector and Joe Meek, the group updates the sound of French yé yé chanteuses like France Gall and Chantal Goya with hints of lounge, '60s garage, and pop psychedelia. In their approach, they share a similar lineage to late seventies/early eighties no wave groups such as Family Fodder, or the Honeymoon Killers (les tueurs de la lune de miel).
Some influences include Brigitte Fontaine, Serge Gainsbourg, Dominique A, France Gall, The Rolling Stones, Nico and the Velvet Underground, Syd Barrett, Chet Baker, Jacques Prévert, Chantal Goya, Os Mutantes, The Shangri-las, The Idle Race, The United States of America, Neon Pearl, The Zombies, Bill Plummer & The Cosmic Brotherhood, and Question Mark & The Mysterians.
